Especially in art, I have always loved the aged, decayed, distressed and imperfect. For me the imperfections are what makes a thing perfect. And so because of that I am very much into the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi Sabi.
I am trying to find ways to incorporate my love of all the above in my pattern design. It’s all very well to do commercial, kitsch and novelty patterns but designing with my personal aesthetic is the thing that makes my heart sing. Going forward I hope to be truer to myself and design less cutesy novelty things.
It took some time but, I am, for the most part pleased with this collection. A couple of the brushes were created by the incredible Chris Spooner of Spoon Graphics. I have started making my own brushes. It’s a work in progress.
